Guys, I...um...with my
last post, I thought it was a given that the comics represented a change in the portrayal of Buffy's sexuality. Apparently, there's some disagreement on that. I'm quite willing to be wrong.
So here's the what. Below the cut are a couple of the infamous B/A fucking pictures from the comic. If you can point me to a screenshot from the show that displays a similar amount of skin from Buffy in a sex scene, I'll concede the point. I did some research of my own, and I managed to find a couple similar pictures to those in the comics...but they weren't from the show.
Below the cut is decidedly not safe for work.
First, the comics:
Is there a shot from the series of Buffy's body shown fully naked with her hands covering her breasts? Or of her - again, fully naked - wrapped around a man during sex?
By my assessment, the screenshots would end up looking something like the two pictures below:
Both were taken from websites on sex positions and pretty much constitute softcore porn.
So if you can find me a shot from the TV show that resembles any of these, then I'll admit I may be wrong when I say that the comics are depicting Buffy's sexuality differently.
ETA: Please don't take this as an opportunity to bash the comics, wholesale. This post is pointing out the shift in the portrayal of Buffy's sexuality, the reaction to it, and what it means. It's not intended to be a "reason" to dismiss the comics (though it probably acts as such for some).
