I'm not even a fan of the show and that really pisses me off. Why should the UK TV licence payer's money be used to make shows that are watered down from what we're used to just please American audiences???

They should just make TW as it has been and let the American network edit it as they see fit.

I agree completely! It just bugs the heck out of me that they're changing the show because of the US networks. Not a trend I want to see AT ALL.

From what I've read - and I read a few more spoilers than you do :) - it's not the GLTB issues they need to soften. It's language and violence. You just can't say 'fuck' on this side of the Atlantic. *sigh* Everything I've heard says that our 'happy couple' is still very 'happy'. :)

Yeah -- I mentioned the language above. But honestly, I've watched movies on SciFi that have "fuck" and "shit" edited out. Why can't they just do that and keep the show the way it is?

I'm very uncomfortable with the fact that they're doing that, because what's next? No more ambiguous finales because the US audiences don't like dealing with them? Dumbing down shows because it won't get good ratings if they're 'too complex'? Bah.

I saw that this morning too, and I kind of loved the way Torchwood can swear all over the place, and have monsters doing gruesome things, without anyone complaining, and now they're changing all that.

And I just got the impression that even if they don't tone down their GLTB content they'll be told to- I don't know, make it tasteful or less obvious somehow, and that makes me sad....

Yeah -- it annoys me. I don't want to see a series made in another country tailored to meet the expectations of my country. It's not right to impose the expectations of one country on the product of another, no matter what. Just makes me REALLY uncomfortable. Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. At the end of the day we're paying for the show to be made, and we expect it to be made for us. If other countries enjoy it and buy it that's fantastic. But America has enough awesome shows of its own, we shouldn't be removing things from the scripts that might offend American networks so they can show it. They should just edit it, like they do everything else. There's a nasty seed of something there that makes me uncomfortable too.

Yeah -- I hear they're not supposed to be doing that, but I still worry. Slippery slopes and all that...

I'd say this surprised me, but, well, it doesn't much. Typical.

Remind me if I ever get into TW, to skip this version, which will be crap, and borrow yours.

See, that's the problem -- this is the UK version of S3 that's going to be toned down for the US audience. That's what's really bugging me about this... I'd be fine if they just made their usual edits once it came over here, but they're preemptively editing for us! O.o
