I can't imagine that they're making so much money with the US that they need to tailor it to the US prude standards. I would assume that they don't being the reason they have to charge so much for DVDs (excluding, obviously, the various import copyright fees). It's ridiculous for any country to have to change their own standards to deal with the prudes over here, unless the show is specifically being shipped over here (and, maybe, shown in their own country for amusement factors). Considering how much time the US cuts for ads, they can accommodate the bleeping/cutting of various swear words/overly gross scenes/etc quite easily.

Exactly! And like I mentioned above, what happens when shows get 'not so stellar' ratings because they're "too complex" -- are they going to dumb them down for the US? Are they going to take away those lovely ambiguous endings like the one in -- what was it, Invasion: Earth?
