i (personally) think of atheism as a religion, because a religion is what you believe and not believing in something is a what you believe. Though, since most people I know don't consider atheism to be a religion so I just say that I'm not religeious.
I'm sure most other people disagree with me, but it's how I see it. To me, being a spiritual person and a religious person are two things that don't have to coincide.
:\ but there you go. My two cents. I hate the idea of converting. It's basically a pretty sounding word for "We're going to piss in your culture and replace it with ours because we can't tolerate other beliefs"
Not necessarily, converting can sometimes be a good thing if a particular religion you are born to is actually the intollerant one (ie: if you were born into a religion that is homophobic, racist and sexist you may want to convert out of such a thing later). That's why I unconverted, not only did I not believe in ANYTHING the religion did (ie: god, heaven, hell, demons, angels, etc...) but the religion itself presented many anti-equality beliefs (ie: gender roles, homophobia and general bigotry) so I was definitely not going to associate myself with that. I'm not "pissing on my culture" I'm telling my culture I dislike its attitude towards various things so I refuse to partake in it
( ... )
It sounds like you have a problem with Christian based faith, not religion itself.. Since that's what most people think of when hearing religion, to which I find very closed minded. Calling religion a "cult" is a very bold and ignorant statement.
To answer the poll, I did convert from the religion I was born in to and am very happy in my solitary practice.
