I'll start off with I really like BLU Spy. You and the rest of the Team Fortress cast at Amat do an amazing job of fleshing out your characters with what guidelines the canon has given and creating complex and realistic characters that feel like real people and Spy is one of the most complex ones in the cast. No this isn't a prelude to me tearing your character apart don't worry <3 I do genuinely like him and what you've done with him. This crit isn't even about his characterization.
I was reading the post on the tf2board site where you were asking for crit and what struck me was that there was this kind of barrier. People were saying that Spy didn't make sense but when you explained Spy's actions, they did... it sounded to me like the problem wasn't in Spy's character itself but in the way he's portrayed, if that makes any sense. Once you explained the whys and hows of it and what drove him to do what he did, it all made sense, but everybody was confused until then
( ... )
It's hard to tell, too, whether Spy is aware of all his insecurities. Does he know he has them? Does he consciously try to deal with them? Since they're never brought up when the log isn't centered around them, neither are his normal coping mechanisms... if the reader puts thought into the character and thinks about it, they can figure it out, but most people don't, or don't have the extensive knowledge of his headcanon that you or someone that's been following the character has, so I could see how his actions look like they come out of nowhere sometimes

I forgot to add the parts of Spy's insecurities that I would love to see played up! The fact that he's disowned himself from a corrupt, rich family... how does he feel about other rich people or other corrupt politicians? The fact that he's never been in a serious relationship before and doesn't know how to conduct one that isn't a spy drama for real... or that he isn't used to even having friends or responsibilities other than himself. His age and his worries that he's going to be over the hill soon. A fear of failure? His innate paranoia...
I know he has all these things from following the cast and your comments OOC, but they're never mentioned in his logs with other people. All things that aren't exactly flaws but things that we as readers can sympathize with intensely. Playing those up in the description parts of tags even if Spy doesn't mention them or react to them would make him much more relatable. C:

I follow Spy from the chan mostly, so I haven't seen the threads with his boss, no. But I didn't mean that Spy wasn't relateable! I was more saying I can see how people who don't know or follow all his headcanon could find him that way, from what they see. I don't know if I'm telling you to tell more, all my English teachers were always saying that telling is bad, bad, bad. But maybe show more of his mental processes and struggles or something like that

haha, I wish I could write out parts of Spy when he's just on his lonesome and going through his thoughts, but that wouldn't be rping. He's not the type to complain to Engie- he doesn't like the fact Engie knows, or really anyone, and he'd rather get disgruntled and try to ignore it.
He's hard that way, he likes to ignore all of his faults, because if he dwells on them it makes them real- he has been trying to get others to do his dirty work, like BLU Pyro. I'll try to address him doing that more. :>
But thank you! And thanks for the crit, I'll try to flesh out things more, and keep posting logs on the chan.
