There's more than one human character actually. Natsume Yuujinchou is amazing in the way that it shows the bonds between Natsume and the youkai, and his relations with humans. You'd expect the main character to hate humans due to the isolation he's experienced during his childhood, and at the same time his hate for youkai for being the cause of his neglect. It's a wonderful series that shows Natsume's relationship with both race; each episode shows how Natsume matures as he learns more about both the youkai and the humans.
