Recent debates on the internet over the relative nerdiness of Big Bang Theory compared to Community have left me feeling a little uncertain, mostly because I enjoy both shows and I don't want Big Bang Theory to be seen as the villain hogging Community's time slot by making nerdy jokes in an "accessible" manner i.e. by making them about nerds rather ( Read more... )

I've tried watching TBBT a few times, but I don't really appreciate the episodes settings. I find Community to be a lot more fun, without the need to be a comedy sitcom.

I am pretty torn about the idea of this show being canceled ;__; the cast is just so amazing and I love the writing so much. six season and a movie, please

Honestly, I think a big part of why people look down on Big Bang Theory is the laugh track--any comedy can seem more subtle when it's being compared to something that tells you when to laugh. And since Community is prone to obscure references anyway, it stands out all the more. But yes, six seasons and a movie, and it will become the most popular show on American television and be revered as a classic decades down the line. I declare it must be so.

Also no laughtrack. Big Bang Theory's laughtrack may come from a live audience, but it's definitely edited; no live audience laughs that loudly for every single joke. (I also watch the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, which have live audiences, and the reactions feel much more organic because of the variation of how each joke is received. Whereas TBBT laughter is almost exactly the same, and made to sound like every audience member finds every joke funny, which can't really be the case ( ... )
