This is my "cool American cartoon" icon.

Let it be known that I was the wrong generation for the many, many parts of '80s cartoon pop culture that permeate the internet. I see people making jokes about He-Man or Jem or TMNT and I feel awkward all around because I only have the vaguest idea what any of those things even are; I never even saw any of them as reruns, probably since as a kid ( Read more... )

thundercats, baccano!, i like animation

...They did a remake of Thundercats? XD That's one of the shows I watched as a kid, tried to watch last summer and couldn't take all of the talking. Don't know about the remake, but the old-school version? Er--the opening was awesome, full of action. And then the rest of the episode was filled with plot holes and talking and maybe five minutes of action. And a critter that whined a lot.

Oh, and there was spandex. Yep. Lots of it.

Hm, I may need to see what's going on with the remake. :)

One of the best things about the remake? Snarf doesn't talk. :-P

That's pretty much what I hear about the original--awesome opening, mediocre-to-awful rest of the show. Whereas this one does not actually have an opening (at least, not in the two-part pilot), and the rest of the show is pretty cool, so! Check it out, it's worth your time.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY (re: Lee Pace.) "but he's not anything like a teenager but a;jskdf;jdsRUBBER FACE."

Also Romola Garai I bet would be really really good at blowing things up.

If only we could revert Lee Pace to 15, and also shrink him a couple feet, he would be the most amazing choice ever. I can just picture him sobbing and shooting up a bar!

I've never seen Romola Garai in anything, so sadly I do not have any opinions on her besides what she looks like, and she does look the part, so I suppose I am okay with that. I suppose.

I SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON LEE PACE, and also am full of starry eyes at the casting in general. DO WANT.

I am of the right generation for 80s cartoon pop culture nostalgia -- and a bit too old for Pokemon nostalgia, so I just kind of stare at all these bizarre critter names my friends cackle about -- but I never watched ThunderCats. (Captain Planet, yo! I loved that show so much. It's a pity that it turns out to suck when you're older than an elementary schooler.) However, a pretty dramatic pretty remake does sound entertaining!

SO MUCH WANT but it will never happen, if freakin' Death Note can't get an American movie then the small-audience show has no chance, even if we do like our violence and babes. D: (But I suppose they'd sex up all the ladies anyway, so maybe we're better off.)

Pokemon nostalgia is 100% my thing forever and ever! It does not even have to be nostalgia, because you cannot really have nostalgia for a thing that is still ongoing and will continue to be ongoing until the end of time. As for ThunderCats, the comparison I am hearing is like if you took the original and hit it with a heavy dose of Avatar, which is a good thing, yes?

I'm pretty sure that "like [X], but hit with a heavy dose of Avatar!" is a solid way to sell me on ANYTHING EVER.

And yeah, I highly doubt that an American live-action movie of Baccano! would ever get made, or that it wouldn't suck if it did. BUT I CAN STILL DREAM about the glory that would be an awesome adaptation of it!

I have no clue when it comes to nostalgic '80s cartoons, because I was one of those kids that grew up with Pokemon and Sailor Moon and Yugioh (looking back now, the dubs were not very good, but the shows were watchable!), sooo the Thundercats remake barely makes a blip on my radar.

Anyways, that fancasting for a live-action Baccano! is a thing of perfection. Especially the choice for Firo, and Jude Law for Luck. *my fangirly self approves*

Same here (and the Pokemon dub at least got better, they actually started referring to rice balls as rice balls), but I am okay with cool American cartoons even if they're based on an unfamiliar source material, so I can run with it. And it is pretty cool.

So much want for live-action Baccano!--it's not like it's entrenched in the medium, even--but it will never happen, not ever. D: But we can dream!
