at least i'm finally happy with the opening instrumental--well, mostly

A VIDDER'S DILEMMA. In a vid otherwise made entirely out of live-action sources, does it mesh to have a 2-second shot of a cartoon? On one hand, it fits the theme perfectly and is in fact what inspired me to make the vid in the first place; on the other hand, it's the only animated thing in there. (Well. I might put another clip of it near the very ( Read more... )

The cartoon thing is tough. In the case of Heroes (I'm assuming) I don't think a shot from the webcomic would work, because the two forms of media aren't... entwined, sort of, in most viewers heads. If you were mixing, say, superman comic shots into a vid of the latest movie, that would work. But even for poeple who read the comics I think such a short clip will be a visual WTF? moment, even if they get it a second later.
I'm sorry; it's late and I'm probably not being clear.

Ahh, no, I meant an animated cartoon. And no, it isn't Heroes, though I'm using Heroes in the vid; it's Superjail, which is, er, probably not something anyone will know about. It's not exactly a big fandom. Or a well-known show. But an animation is certainly different than a static image (although those also have their place, usually in meta-vids), so does that change your thoughts?

I think it would throw me out of the vid, as a viewer, unless something were done to tie it in more closely with the vid. For instance, if you had three animated clips interspersed throughout the live action, then the animation would just be part of the vid. But just one clip that's animated would stick out.

What about adding some kind of cartoon-like effects to some of the live action footage, like in obsessive24's "Change (In the House of Flies)"?

Ahhh, but that would imply that I have the capabilities of adding such effects in the first place! Besides, it's not so much that I want to add a cartoony feel; it's that I want to use a specific clip from a specific show that features an "in the future this character is evil and all-powerful" episode, which is pretty much exactly what the vid is about. (That episode being what inspired the vid in the first place.) But if you really do think it'll throw people out of the vid, it probably wouldn't be hard to find a clip from a different source instead. Thanks!

i think if the animated bit was being used as punctuation or for emphasis it would work, but otherwise i agree with the others; it may be off-putting.
