I can hear people cheering outside.

...and I wish I had something wonderful and poignant and inspirational to say, but I've never been good at that sort of thing, so.

It's late, and I need to get to bed, because I have an 8 AM class tomorrow.

But I'm going to go outside and listen to people for a little while longer.

omg omg omg, daily show colbert report, my life and welcome to it, politics will fuck your shit up

I realized, while I was watching the states on the map tick over to blue, that for the first time I could remember, I was proud of my country. Because by god, I finally feel like the majority of us aren't idiots any more.

I was thinking about this today and I realise you have to go back to Carter to really have a UK that doesn't regard the US with some pretty serious contempt (and back then I was too young to tell, though I did know who Carter was at about the age of 4). We almost got it back there for a while when Clinton was in office, but then there was Monicagate and the whole thing was reduced to a punchline again. Given that I was 7 when Carter left office, that's a long time, and it shaped me and my generation quite considerably.

It makes me unbelievably happy that (a) my friends in the USA feel like they're reclaiming their country and (b) that some goodwill might extend towards the USA from people and countries who have shunned it. Because I've known so many Americans who fly in the face of the ugliest stereotypes (in fact, number of objectionable Americans I've met personally = ooh, around zero), and I want other people to know them, too.

It's a bitch about Proposition 8, though. Ah well, work to be done. *rolls up sleeves*

YES WE CAN?

YES WE DID.

Don't worry. You're inspirational enough.

People have been doing that in my town too.

I really wish I could stay up as well, but I've got 6 AM crew practice. But just think! It's the start of a new day when you wake up tomorrow. =D

The workers in the cafeteria this morning were grinning up a storm when I got breakfast. Not everybody's that happy, but--man, the ones who are...

Heh, it took me a full 3 seconds to realize which outside you were referring to... Not the Washington one, but the Georgia one.. granted, it's an art college outside, but still! People in Georgia cheering! Yayay!

. o O (and NC is really really really trying to be a blue state for the first time in its history! Man, i lived to see this happen! :D)

I will admit that not everyone here is bouncing up and down in joy. (And most of us aren't native Georgians.) But still, hearing those cheers? Fuckin' A.

(Did NC go for Obama? I know SC didn't, but after a while, I just stopped paying attention to the states and stared at the numbers going up and up and up instead.)

Apparently they are still counting 40,000 provisional votes... historically 65% of them will prove to be eligible and that they will break towards the winner, ie Obama.

(Overwhelming here in Durham, though! 102,237 for Obama; 32,040 for McCain)

"Unofficial election results show Obama with 12,106 votes more than Republican rival John McCain."

So yar! Looking Good!

And heh, i don't associate SC with NC in any shape way or form, really. It's just that state south of us, y'know? ;D

Oh & we totally voted in our Very First Female Governor! Tis a year for Firsts, it seems!

Though i voted for the libertarian 'cause i din't care for the winner's stance on immigrants >.>

I would just like to say that I adore your icon. I'd totally vote for him--well, maybe not that him--except he kind of has a history of running away from public office, so. Obviously the real candidate is Martha.

I left a message in the kitchen this morning saying the following:

GUESS WHO WON THE US ELECTIONS?

(nobody should be surprised by this)

When I came back from lectures, our token American walked in, saw it stuck on the fridge and by this point illustrated, make a really weird noise and left. He came back five minutes later with a huge grin.

See, it's not even our country and yet my kitchen is invested it you. It's mental.
