We went to the Kingston Messabout over the weekend. On Saturday night, we were hanging out aboard a Bolger Watervan, playing music in the aft salon and having a singalong, when we noticed out the starboard side windows that the Aurora Borealis was on display. never seen the Aurora Borealis in person, or the Aurora Australis for that matter (from Tassie it's visible). Sounds fascinating.

...of the first night in the Boundary Waters of (way-)Northern MN. We were on a small island in the middle of a pretty good-sized lake. Mars was at its closest approach in a few hundred years and was prominent in the southern sky. The full moon was rising, and the Aurora was spectacular. Went to bed quite late that night...

The moon was down when we saw the Aurora, which made them all the more spectacular. They were bright enough to rival the full moon!

Man, that sounds great. I've only seen the Aurora once, and it was really faint, but it was so cool.
