Why is it that opportunities always present themselves in ways other than what you want them to?

~.: So during my visit with my mom this Christmas, she and I got to talking about work and my job search, and how there are absolutely no opportunities in my area that I actually qualify for without my Master's degree. I started then to whine about how easy it would be for me to get a job in New York, especially considering I already have ( Read more... )

While I would miss you (as would a lot of your friends here), you brought up pros that I think outweigh your cons at the moment. ^^; If you really want to get going in your preferred field of employment, NY might be the best for you.

Overall, Virginia seems to have VERY high standards for any form of employment. X__x I have no idea why, but they do!

Oh, Virginia~~ And I'm not going to be making any quick, rash decisions right this second. I'm going to wait a few more months, continue looking here, and see what happens. :)

Hey if you think you'll have a better chance of getting a job and a place to live in NY then go for it! Especially if you have family willing to accommodate you temporarily. As for "finding a place like Virginia", there actually are some nice places in NY state outside of the city. particularly in Rochester, from what I've heard. My stepdad's family is from there and we've been up to visit on occasion. I saw some suburbs that looked fairly similar to what you would see down here. Unless you're looking for city-living, in which case I can't help you there.

I've always heard that cost of living in NY is pretty high, but maybe I'm just thinking about NY city.

Anyhoo, I'd miss you a lot, but I agree with Jess that the pros outweigh the cons here. If you find an avenue worth pursuing, do it!

Rochester does have some nice areas. My roommate Jenna is from one of those nice areas, so I'll be looking there if I'm looking to really move (though in that case I may have to get a roommate, which I don't mind so much; I might even be able to get my friend to room with me). If I decide I really wanna do this, I may ask you to put me in contact with your stepdad; maybe he can direct me towards some of the other nice areas.
