cheap head base that is not foam?

so, the problem is. i have big plans for a fursuit of kinda unusual character /i posted about this before/, but... no idea how to make the headbase. it needs to be form-fitting so the head'll be small /he's a bit more humanized and has realistic body proportions/, and a moving jaw is a must, so foam isn't an option (also because i suck at shaping ( Read more... )

Possibly, maybe you could use a DVC resin small feline base and put a little bit of foam padding to create the shape you want? Only problem is that they're a bit expensive, about $80. But it might not be really what you're looking for, just a suggestion

you know, i'd love to do it that way... the price of it itself is not a problem as it'd be cheaper than making my own resin base, but... the shipping. i live in Poland and it'd cost way more than the base itself...

Ohh right, that'd be pretty expensive D:
Maybe, if you can't find any other options you could use a balaclava base? They seem to be pretty form fitting

Do you have access to a 3D Printer?

If it's not something you're making to sell, this could be an option! Might wanna do a fleece layer to cover the holes, or maybe not, I don't have experience working with this model (although I hope I will soon!)

I disagree with the notion that making a resin base is pointless for one cast. It's your specific character, you like the sculpt so far and you're comfortable with this method. There is absolutely no reason not to continue making a resin base just because you feel you wouldnt be able to sell a copy.

If money is truly an issue with resin, consider that other methods cost money too. If those methods fail, you've wasted money. Time is money too. Although ventilation is a big issue, definitely take that precaution.

You could try to use a carnival mask base, such as these, as your starting point, since you want it to be close to your face (I'm assuming similar to your avatar pic ( ... )

When I make a mold that I'll only use once and it's for something that's going to be furred over I'll just make an "oogoo" mold. There are instructions here http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/
It uses silicone caulking and cornstarch, then you just need a mothermold over top which can be made out of pretty inexpensive things too.
