detachable feathers/washing a head with feathers?

so, i have that one commissioner who has a dragon fursona. the fursuit is coming along great, the customer is happy so far, but still there's a problem - the character has something like a feather mohawk. the (natural) feathers i need to use should be 30-40 cm (12-16") long, so it's quite a lot ( Read more... )

Real feathers are easily destroyed, so I would first ask, do they -have- to be real, or would the customer be willing to have them substituted with a method such as this: http://fursuit.livejournal.com/2533653.html?

Either way, I would figure out a system where the mohawk is snapped or velcro-ed on. That way, it could be removed for storage, cleaning, or transport.

I would use Velcro to make the feathers detachable. Glue/sew the feathers on a piece of fabric and then putt Velcro on the bottom. Hope this helped!😄

This is what I was going to suggest. Using velcro for the feathers would also make storage of the head easier.
