I work for a mascot company and we get HUGE spools that would last a fursuit maker for years. There are two sizes: bt-69 for hand stitching and bt-33 for machine use. It's from a company called American and Efird, inc. it's a nylon cord that it incredibly strong. I've never popped a seam with this stuff!

I use anything upholstery it all works great! Someone recommend #69 so I did an ebay search and bought some of the top item spools. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=upholstery+thread+69&_sop=15

That's almost exactly what we use, just a different brand it seems like :3

When I started out, upholstery thread was recommended to me but I have found it's really unnecessary. I get all purpose polyester and it works just as well. is easier to find and comes in way more colors.

Agree 100%, upholstery thread not suitable for everything. I had a few emails from my site this morning and had beginners who tried to run the upholstery stuff through their basic machines and it did not work with a favorable outcome.

Newbies reading on: Normal machine thread is perfectly suitable to use on fursuits, you are making clothing, not a piece of upholstered furniture. If you aren't familiar with sewing machines, please use normal machine thread.

This is very true. I nearly knocked my machine out of alighnment when I first started out. I had a cheap machine for my own personal use without the thought of making suits for sale. It's expensive to have a machine serviced, especially when the service costs more then the machine is actually worth at retail in most starter machine cases.

I've been trying to find the exact same stuff in bulk, so I'll keep an eye on this thread! The XP heavy duty is my favorite too, straight up upholstery doesn't go through my machine terribly well.
