If it's cotton it could deteriorate with age. Might be best to go with pure poly!

I always use upholstery thread, it's the strongest that I know of. :)

ive seen that before, but in very old (like 20 year old) spools of thread stored in a garage, or in cotton thread exposed to oils.

you should sew your body suits with heavy-duty upholstry thread, it's more expensive, but the stuff is paractically unbreakable.

Wrap the thread around a couple of fingers and pull it. If you can break it by hand, don't use it, it's gone bad.

It doesn't really "go bad" per se, but it can deteriorate with age. But we're talking like 20 years stored in your grandma's sewing kit, not a year in your craft drawer. Cotton thread is more likely to deteriorate.

Also cheap-ass thread will be much thinner and will break more easily than proper upholstery thread.
