I'm not reading books (it's all papers of late) and now I can't read the news. Natural disaster, economic disaster, and compromise of civil liberties in the Western world. Nothing's new except myself, who still finds it all startling when I don't find it enraging...so it's all been roaming for fanfics (beautiful lovely angst-filled XMFC fusion fics ( Read more... )

seeing the trailer for The Eagle for the first time and thinking they filmed a fanfic (which they actually sort of did, but I've not read the book)

Didn't read the book either, and the movie was OK (not great, not bad - just decent), but the relationship between the two main characters was delicious, same as the fanfic that sprang from it! >:D

I hope she is. The movie's titled "Snow White and the Huntsman" which makes me think there's going to be reconciliation between Gondorians and the Dunlendings via the Eowyn-Faramir descendent....which would be actually, kind of magnificent.

I totally sympathise with using fandom to avoid reality. It's effective, at least!

Most Charles characterization baffles me, too :)

I argue that fandom allows me to both avoid and accept reality....

CHARLES doesn't have a characterization! I really wonder at fandom's tendency to write from Erik's POV in choosing between privileged telepathic Oxford lush or Holocaust-survivor and Nazi-assassin..
