A goose. There were lots of little boney rings that were in my maceration jar when he was done cooking. Anyone know what those could be?

When I had a seagull skull, the eyes had round bones in them, could them them? I assume they hold the eyes in place?

Too small to be eye rings (and too many!), but Skullgrrl suggested they might be part of the throat/vocal cords. Pretty neat, eh.

I have seen the little bony ring things in the owl pellets I have dissected. Could they be parts of feathers, perhaps? I'm not sure :[

Lovely collection, though!!

Not part of the feathers, too uniform and the wrong material for that. Skullgrrl suggested that they might be from the bird's throat, and that seems about right. They look like fairy rings.

Awesome collection! I love that most of what you have is found rather than bought. I don't find much of anything but squirrels around here, so most of what I keep has been purchased. I absolutely love that squirrel mummy!

I don't know much about birds, but female Scarlet Tanager maybe? I really have no idea, but the colours seem right.

Unless it's something really unusual that I'm not likely to find myself, like a seal tooth or a strange Asian beetle, I always feel a little guilty about buying things because it feels like cheating, haha. In that regard, I consider myself more of a scavenger than a collector, you know? But that's just how I wing it, nothing wrong with buying stuff. :D

And keep your eyes open, and look down (just not all the time or you'll walk into trees). I tend to find things when I'm not looking for them but when I -am- looking, observing. But I've lost just as many things by not having a bag on my person at all times, haha.

And maybe a Scarlet Tanager; the color does seem similar. They go through Florida when they migrate, and I found it in April. I don't know if that coincides with their migration.

It was just a guess based on colour, really. I don't know much of anything about migratory birds or when they travel. It sure is pretty though!

Big boney rings are from the eyes, but there would only be two of those. the tiny ones are from the cartilage in their throats, possibly vocal cords.

That sounds like it! There were definitely more than two, and bigger than eye rings, I think. Thank you!
