19th Century Megirditch Handheld Counterfeit Coin Detector. Brass. 94 x 18 mm. Very Fine.A most unusual compact folding scale, meant to be held in hand while
a coin is placed on the horizontal balance beam. There are ridges that allow for placement of three different coins on two separate beams, allowing for 6 different coins
to be measured. Stamped MEGIRDITCH on the handle, while the stamped numerals are in Arabic and translate to: 44, 51, 55 and 88, 100, 110.
Presumably these numbers correspond to the number of grains for which the intended coins for measure should weigh, however it is unknown
which coinage these numbers correspond with. An unusual mystery waits to be solved by the winning bidder.
