Being with Dying: Cultivating Compassion and Fearlessness in the Presence of Death, by Joan Halifax:

What was making you have to remind yourself that it was written in the early 1900s? Antiquated language? Observations that seemed out of whack?

Mainly the terms or observations from when he was writing about race: "colored", or things like "Since black people are naturally gifted at oration"... Just some sentences or phrases that wouldn't be said today or would be considered offensive if they were.
