Okay, after many hours of nail biting I got the graphic novel version down to 136 pages. FG will be $30.00. This doesn't include shipping. That might be $5-$7.
I could still add 4 more pages and put it at 140 but this increases the cost of printing by $0.40. I know that doesn't sound like much but in the world of printing, it is. This would put the book at $30.50. I'd wanted to have some extra stuff like character concept sketches and 'how I colored FG' snippets but this stuff isn't so much important as it is 'cool to have'. At least to me personally. Basically, I wanted things not in the single issues to be in the trade.
Going forward, I don't know if I'll do anymore single issues. I know myself well enough to know I won't be able to churn out covers. GOOD covers anyway... (I'm definitely a chapter break type of person). There would only be two trades a year so there would be a 5-6 month gap between each. I'm hoping to have volume two finished by end of February 2011. FG will still be updated online at no more than two pages a week.
I'm telling you, there is so much more to comics than just DRAWING the comic. I'm a few steps away from sending the book to print because I want to do a new cover... First I need to come up with what this amazing new cover will look like... Back in March I did a really rough crappy print version of the first volume to see what it'd look like. This was the cover:
There's actually nothing wrong with this besides it being kinda boring XD;;. What prompted me to want to do actual new cover art was a trip to the comic shop. Guh, I felt my heart leap into my throat... So many great covers that made me WANT to buy the book and I didn't know a thing about that particular series. Still I always cringe at the idea of making covers for however many volumes long FG will be...
Anyway, that aside, here's some info on the collected edition of the book. Ka-blam needs 28 days to prep/print the books so October is out for the release. It'll be on sale IN November. I hate setting dates before I know for sure when things will be ready. I don't have control over Ka-Blam and their workload :\.
