I've had trouble with the 1000 word limit but that being said I have been able to cut my stories down to fit so either way I'm fine with it. I've only written a few times here so far, so I leave it up to the more involved writers of this comm to decide. :D
i voted yes mostly because raising the limit to something a little bit longer, like 1500 words, would be something i would enjoy seeing, but if we didn't have the limit enforced, i, too, would just either run away with things or not write at all assuming i don't have the time to do it. having these challenges be short (~under 1500 in my mind is "SHORT SHORT SHORT") really gives me, and maybe others?, the opportunity to play with characters, pairings, or situations they would never want to tackle as a long fic. that's REALLY why i came here - the opportunity to dabble with things i shy away from when it comes to planned, "full" fics i write based on my own desires.
well summarized! Its been very helpful to see what different people see this community as. I was thinking of a middle-of-the-road compromise that should hopefully make both sides happy. I'm still working out the kinks, but I like your idea quite a bit - having two 'streams'. Going to add that to the ideas page. Thanks for the awesome suggestion.
as someone who normally gets carried away and does fics over 1k words, i'm generally in favor of having a longer limit. on the other hand, maybe the way to go about it would just be to split the longer posts into two separate posts, essentially a chapter 1 & 2 type thing. the author would have to make sure to note them as such to prevent confusion but that way anybody wanting a quick little read would know to skip those particular stories until they have more time
