mod post: rule discussion

Hi everyone, I'm the head mod here and I'm posting this from my actual account instead of the fmfmod account because its an issue that I inadvertently brought around.

This week's prompt, I submitted my fic and with that I blatantly broke the rules (:D). The rule I broke was regarding length, as it stands now, ficlets should be between 200-1000 words and my submission was 2000. I honestly did not think anything of it (I was swept away with inspiration) until another comm member brought my indiscretion to my attention. I realized I should bring this issue to the community at large, what we want our policy to be in regards to length. There have been a few instances where members have submitted stories longer than the 1000 words and I've never felt the need to crack down on that rule. However, this is a community and not my own dictatorial state (mwhahah).

Do we want to allow for longer fanworks to be allowed into the comm? If a person is inspired to write beyond the 1000 word limit, should those fics be allowed?

• In support: this community is about inspiring fanworks and creating more Teen Wolf awesomeness for everyone to enjoy. If a prompt has inspired someone to go beyond the limit, we should encourage that. Everyone wins.
• Against: this is a ficlet community, meaning people come here with the intent and understanding of producing fanworks that fall under the ficlet umbrella and it should remain that way.

If we do decide to allow longer fanworks, the name/nature of the comm will not change and nor will you be expected to write longer fanworks. Everything will remain the same, except we will allow fanworks of any length longer than 200 words. I have created a poll to gauge the response to this, but please feel free to give any suggestions or comments in the comments of this post. If you'd prefer to contact me privately, send me a PM. I will also state that whatever your opinion on this issue is, I promise I will not be offended or take anything personally. :) - seriously, no reason to be afraid to say anything. I'm super chill.
