Dossed about all morning, doing nothing in particular, apart from fiddling round with the look of this thing. I have a lot of interesting parcels on their way; books (Mistress Masham's Repose by T H White, The Land of Green Ginger by Noel Langly, as recommended by Neil Gaiman, and a Turkish cookbook), a selection of copper wire and sheet for my ( Read more... )

Sadly, I am more enthusiastic about the buffalograss for vodka than the tomatoes.

Certainly! Is there anywhere good near your work? The only pub I know in the City area is the remarkably seedy one used by the departmental lecturers, and I wouldn't inflict that on you.

Meet me at Farringdon Station around 5.30 (do you have my mobile number??) and I know a few nice places where there's even no smoking. I will try to text you tomorrow at lunch to confirm or you do the same.

I grew up on The Land of Green Ginger and loved it; it would probably make much more sense to somebody who'd seen a pantomime!

I'd never heard of it (except as a street in Hull) until Neil Gaiman mentioned it, but I am enjoying it immensely. It is ultimately destined for a small girl I know who has the same book-devouring habits as I had when I was little. This gives me an excellent excuse to read piles of children's books. I've already re-read most of E. Nesbit

You can make vodka from buffalograss? How so?
I´m late planting my morning glories also.

The vodka is just flavoured with the grass - I had some in Cracow and it was delicious, especially with apple juice. I was told that buffalograss only grows in the Polish forests, but Chiltern Seeds, who are excellent for odd seeds, sell it, so I thought I might give it a trial.

I love Mistress Masham's Repose...such a good book! I'll have to look up The Land of Green Ginger.
