Changing info on FAFSA

Nov 12, 2012 11:35

So I already legally changed my name and gender. And I'm trying to get financial aid again to go to college. But what do I do to update my info on FAFSA? Since it has my old name and all. For those of you who have done it, what did you do? Did you have a hard time with changing your info?

Thanks in advance guys!

Yeah, I've also applied online in the past. So you think it's better to fill out a new FAFSA instead of updating my old one with my new info? I'm just hoping not to come across any problems with having two files in their system, seeing as my SSN will in their twice.

When you register with Fafsa you have to give your personal info you can correct your personal info in the system and then put your info correctly in for future ones as well.

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ I also found doing this helps to cut down on the old name coming up on background checks and you can remove that previous identity faster.

The site is fairly user friendly, but tedious as hell. Each time you update (in my most recent experience the past few weeks) you have to save each page...there are many. Then you have to wait for a confirmation email verifying your changes, and if you have not already you will need to deal with Selective Service.
