This is normal. I went to Garramone and he required a Doctor's clearance before surgery. This included a physical exam and bloodwork. However, because I am relatively young and do not have any heart disease, he did not ask for an EKG. But, some doctors do ask for an EKG especially if you are older or have any evidence of heart disease. As any surgery when you go under general anesthesia is risky. To me, it just looks like the doctor is order all the routine blood tests.

Those are all standard, simple tests. My surgeon never required any of this, but speaking from a medical perspective, having this before surgery (what it it is is a baseline should anything change) is a really good thing because it will help them understand how far away from your normal range you are should anything go wrong. In short, consider it good medical practice.

Yes. My top surgeon required that; lower surgeon required that and more. Interestingly, when I had my hysto, they only required a CBC and that was done at the hospital just a few days before surgery.

Wow. They've really upped it then. (Had mine done in 2002) All I had was a 1 hr discussion, made an appointment and had surgery. Didn't even need a physical prior.

Pretty standard. I had the same tests before I had top surgery.
