I put gel into my lube, in case it helps. It stops it being painful, it's pretty much like the lube that's designed to tingle a bit.

I'm on transdermal T alone and I've seen pretty decent growth without needing to apply it directly there. I personally doubt that the application of gel/cream directly to the area produces a statistically significant response other than a possible psychological effect.

I use the equivalent of twice your dose (I started off on Testim then Androgel at your dose). I think Androgel only comes in 1% like Testim does. If you want to get a different percentage, you most likely need to go to a compounding pharmacy, I use 1 g of 10% daily from Women's International Pharmacy. A month's supply at my dose is $40 without insurance (your dose is $17) and they can make it in a cream version which can be applied to various parts of your body without stinging so it is a little more freedom than just putting it on your arms. I put it on down there once because I was having a test that day which required I not have any cream or gel on my arms plus I was curious to see if it would hurt and it didn't.

pumping. the urologist i see at duke was skeptical about topical cream, although there's some (old) research suggesting it helps with micropenis. however, he was very enthusiastic about pumping. 15 mins daily, according to him. there are several surgeons who recommend it before lower surgery, as well.

and to be clear (not that icarus wasn't, but it is easy to get confused) topical cream is not the same thing as gel. Some meta surgeons (eg., Meltzer) prescribe topical cream.

yes, correct, thank you for clarifying that.

there is one simple reason: topical t is does NOT act more where it is applied. t goes THROUGH the skin INTO the bloodstream, and it's spread around from there. you won't get a bigger dick by applying t gel/cream to your genitals just like you won't get a beard by putting gel on your face.
and as if that wasn't enough, i doubt applying alcohol to your genitals every single day would do you that good in the long run, even if you sucked it up re: pain.

topical t is does NOT act more where it is applied.

I have noticed significantly more hair on the thigh that I put my T cream on. The thigh was not like this pre-T. I've heard of other people experiencing more hair growth where they apply their cream/gel. This seems to suggest that maybe the T does act more on the area it is applied to.

I think this is quite pausible as the T does sit just below the skin being slowley released into the blood stream. I have read that a number of people on gel have higher DHT levels because of this. That DHT conversion in the skin could be then triggering extra growth in that area. No idea about dick growth tho,.

yeah, i agree. it's not supposed to act locally, but there's some anecdotal evidence that it does. my belly, where i apply the cream, is orders of magnitude more hairy than any other part of my body. not that i mind or anything...

These are all excellent points, thanks. Looks like I'll be investing in a pump (or, knowing me, one of the cheap homebrew equivalents) instead.

I use a 60cc syringe with the top cut off and filed. Cost me $2 and works just fine.

i gotta say, once i got a real pump i found the difference to be notable in terms of effectiveness and ease of use.

Notable enough to be worth the cost? Most seem to be in the $60-100 range, but I could spring for that if the difference is really substantial. I'm on the fence right now.
