i dont have mine in front of me but it did not say that I was trans, it simply stated that I am not/was not required to register and did not state a reason.

my school wanted a reason but gave me a check box to fill out. trans was not on the check box so i checked other and wrote none of these situations apply to me. they didnt press the issue.

Dear Mr. ...

We have received your inquiry as to whether you are required to register with Selective Service.

Based on our records and the information you provided, you were not required to register with Selective Service. You should submit this letter to any agency concerned about your registration status with Selective Service.

I think this is pretty much the standard letter. It's also the same wording sent to my partner who is not trans but immigrated to the US after he turned 26.

Yeah, I got my exempt letter before I turned 26 though. I should have mentioned that in my first post, but I was distracted.

Trans people are automatically exempt from registering, even if they are under the age of 26.

Fair warning: the request form says to expect to wait 4 to 6 weeks to receive the letter, but I'm on week 10 now waiting. And don't expect to get through on their phone lines. As soon as they "open" for business, their phone system gives nothing but a busy signal until they "close."

Unless what I read on www.sss.gov was incorrect, even if there were some kind of draft, no one with any of our kinds of surgeries would be able to serve. I registered and just didn't worry too much about it.

Keep the letter - you will need to go through the check box, prove yourself rigamarole every semester, but not need to get another letter.
