I've tried using Twitter and Tumblr in the past days since I'm procrastinating holidaying and have plenty of time. I've tried to like the sites because fandom has moved away from LJ, but it's such a pain that I'm wondering whether I should stay there

I've heard there's a way to filter out posts with tags you don't want to see, although that does require a) manually setting up the tags, and b) the people you're following sticking to a set of tags.
Twitter, I have no idea. You would think 1sentence guy would like the place, but I just feel like people use it for "what I had for lunch today" and not "here's how I resolved my existential crisis today".

Twitter is like a random place to dump your stream of consciousness. I can understand the appeal since it's easy to post things there. But at the same time, I wish it had more features and allowed one to post longer entries...
Whatever, I'm leaving LJ though, since they've changed their policies now, meaning that I will keep this as long as the Aicoholics are here but won't use it for my entries anymore. Am going to post the last entry now. Maybe I'm going to move to Dreamwidth although I'm not sure about it yet.
Please stay in touch via mail and Skype, though!

Used to be able to "follow" a tag, and only see things from it when I went to check on it. Once upon a time it even told me how many new posts it had.
Now it doesn't even show you the "newest" posts with that tag if you follow that link - just the most popular of the "new" that it thinks you're after (read "popular list reordered").
So annoying, but I guess they did that to stop the pornbot sprees that would prey on kids' show tags and what not. (Tumblr is APPALLING for pornbots. LJ's not great for it, but damn, not a week goes by where I'm not blocking a pornbot there.)
It's hard to follow fandom these days. There's no longer a central location for most fandoms I feel - just little pockets here and there, often based on material shared(fic/art/talk) or just people... All these social media sites actually make it difficult to find where your chosen fandom of the day actually hangs out.
