Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook VS LiveJournal

I've tried using Twitter and Tumblr in the past days since I'm procrastinating holidaying and have plenty of time.  I've tried to like the sites because fandom has moved away from LJ, but it's such a pain that I'm wondering whether I should stay there ( Read more... )

I was on Tumblr very very briefly in a fit of RWBY fanboyishness. The most popular fandoms DO have managed group accounts; I helped run one for a while.

I've heard there's a way to filter out posts with tags you don't want to see, although that does require a) manually setting up the tags, and b) the people you're following sticking to a set of tags.

Twitter, I have no idea. You would think 1sentence guy would like the place, but I just feel like people use it for "what I had for lunch today" and not "here's how I resolved my existential crisis today".

I suppose it's harder to manage the tags on Tumblr. I liked the site before the home screen became cluttered with "suggestions" I had to plough through.

Twitter is like a random place to dump your stream of consciousness. I can understand the appeal since it's easy to post things there. But at the same time, I wish it had more features and allowed one to post longer entries...

Whatever, I'm leaving LJ though, since they've changed their policies now, meaning that I will keep this as long as the Aicoholics are here but won't use it for my entries anymore. Am going to post the last entry now. Maybe I'm going to move to Dreamwidth although I'm not sure about it yet.

Please stay in touch via mail and Skype, though!

You know, Rae, I just got the epiphany that you should come to Twitter and write great one sentences there!

Making one tweet every few months doesn't seem like a good reason to get a twitter account...

Hmm, why not? SN isn't on Twitter for months when she is in China, and I'm not so often there either (there are small bursts of activity when there is something to comment on). But I have the account to read the tweets since I can't if I don't have one. (I don't know whether it's different in the US).

It would be easier to poke you there via the app. XD (I've poked you on Skype sometimes but I have two accounts of yours and don't know which one you use, or whether you still use any.)

Although I suppose that mail is sometimes still the easiest option for personal things. Fandom-related communication is somehow easier via another platform, though, since one can address more people at the same time and it's easier to quote later.

How's life, btw?

Because...it's not. I just don't want a Twitter account. That's all.

Sorry, I don't use Skype at all. I launch it a handful of times a year, usually when I'm trying to play a video game with someone and Hangouts isn't working.

Life is good, can't complain. You?

I really can't complain either. I'm a bit busy, but only with stuff which does interest me (thesis, ballet evenings this November, piano programme, exams but with topics I am interested in). Also, fics and fanart and painting. :)

I'm trying to make time for gaming but it's hard. I do play a bit Plants&Zombies every week.

How is the sleep issue? I notice that my life is easier with more sleep but it's still hard to schedule it since I'm a night owl. My muse wakes up at midnight and it's hard to shut her up.
