Skellington?

Apr 12, 2007 23:39

This morning during lab, inpiration hit me like a faceful of that special odor that only a preserved hagfish can have.  So the rest of the day was consumed with dorkful glee as I drew up a tentative VUX skeleton.  Obsessive a little?  But I knew I wouldn't remember it if I waited.

There's no real articulation, of course. ;)  I'm also toying with the ( Read more... )

I like it! It makes sense in the right places, and yes, I am for a tail/tentacle.

*pictures the VUX preening and showing off their tail/tentacles* They are a vain species, right? Well, there must be an evolutionary advantage to better-looking skin/scales and tails. :)

I tried to keep it simple enough that I wouldn't screw it up too badly. And the more I think about the tail the more I like it. It adds a lot of potential for expression if they can, say, reflexively snap their webs when they're startled, and suchlike. :) They'd seem naked to me without it now.

Now you've got me thinking of VUX girls painting little designs on their tail webbing for some reason. XD Yeah, they would be adorably conceited about their superior posteriors. And of course all that maintainance would make them look sexier to other VUX. And a healthy hide also discourages ectoparasites. Everybody wins!

It looks good, and it makes sense. The tail..well, with so many tentacles, I'd been expecting something along the lines of many tentacles acting as feet. Like a walking octopus. However, this looks good. And the tail fits. They can use it for balance and swimming.

Ooh! They can keep military insignia on their tails! The better the design on their tail, the more rank they have? And the stuff on their chests is for...awards earned? *ponders*

I considered walking octopuses ('cause they're awesome), but they have the advantage of having their body weight supported by seawater.... I don't think I'd be able to configure the tentacles so that they'd bear 200 lbs or so on land. A VUX's lower half is what you make it, though. :)

That's a neat idea! Like, the could start out with a very simple, small tattooish thing when they enlist, and it could be added to every time they're promoted...? People would be able to tell what they were even when they were out of uniform.

Someone needs to draw an Admiral's insignia. XD

Oh, that's a fascinating idea! And very plausible. They must have tails! At least, now they must.

It's a lot less confusing that trying to wrap my mind around a tailless VUX hiney, that's for sure. ;p

The VUX tail: locomote through the water, express emotional states, open multiple pickle jars at once...1001 uses!

Oh, that Zex and his salacious misadventures! What a wacky guy! XD

Was there an artists' strike, perhaps? That's all the farther they got before it was time to lay down pen and pick up picket?

I would so watch that sitcom. I MEAN.

I dunno, really. :O There are so many small details that get bandied around, but you never really see them in the game so it's hard to say for sure. Like the Spathi move on a big muscular foot like a clam or something, but you never really see that in the game so it's hard to picture it. :O Well actually it's just hard for me to picture a Spathi from below the eye (I've done a bunch of doofy sketches for it but nothing seems right). The VUX are just one of those blind areas again, annoyingly enough.
Although I think it'd be weird if I was in a chat with the creators and my first question was SO HEY WHAT DO THE VUX LOOK LIKE FROM BELOW THE WAIST? :D

"One's an impetuous human captain, the other's a green, tentacled space monster who's looking for love in all the wrong places. They fight crime! ...But can they share an apartment?" Sci-fi Channel, you have your assignment. Hop to it.

Any time I try to figure out the Spathi, I get a headache and have to go lie down for a while. They describe themselves as being sort of clam-like, but beyond that my brain sort of burns out.

I suppose with the VUX, players were just supposed to imagine something horrible and gross. Unfortunately my imagination made them sort of cuddly-looking instead. Whoops! And yes, there is no innocent way to frame that question. Of course, you can't really see the rest of the Yehat or Shofixti, either, so I guess you'd have to ask about all of them and slip the VUX in there surruptitiously... >.>

Hey, neat! Tails! I dunno why I never thought about that before. I guess I took that quote about them being "considered humanoid were it not for their heads" a little too literally.

I really like the webbed tail idea. In my mind, it kinda...balances them out? Is that the right way to put it? They seemed a little top-heavy to me before, what with the large head, tentacles, and the surprisingly hourglass figure that they have. This would help equal it out.

You know they'd be all over the idea of tattooing or painting the webbing. XD

All that said, though, I like them both with and without tail. It doesn't matter much to me. :)

That quote held me back for quite a while, until I realized that I'm humanoid and have fingers, thank you very much. :)

I think you just managed to articulate my thoughts for me. It was almost...I don't know, anticlimactic for them to have all these unique appendages on the head and torso and then just sort of taper to plain ol' legs and Ye Olde Humanoid Butt.

And it's the only part of their bodies that they could pierce (without anasthaesia, anyway)...

Like dobermans! Tail or no tail, still awesome. :)
