Over the past nine months, I've really only found one downside to having a 17" laptop -- it's a bit heavy! Since I carry the laptop in a shoulder bag, all that burden is placed on one shoulder. lady-curmudgeon and I bought our Swissgear bags at Sam's Club for something like $65 each. I have no complaints about weight, my biggest problem is it doesn't have quite enough space for me to comfortably fit all the stuff in there for weekend trips to roho's place. But the quality and design? I can vouch that it's great.

Why not just get a MacBook padded sleeve and a regular backpack from a sports store?

I honestly did not consider that at first! On further consideration I'd be a bit worried about the laptop jostling around inside the bag, even if it was in a sleeve. Many of the laptop backpacks have specially designed compartments to suit the laptop and keep it immobilized and padded at the same time. I'll look into that.

Ironically, I was just figuring out that I need to get something like an Everex Cloudbook, as the wieght of my 17" laptop is too much, even with my nice backpack, designed for 17" laptops. I got it at MicroCenter in Vienna, VA, but it is available on the web. I'm not much for giving to charity, but this bag gives money to Cystic Fibrosis ( ... )
