mulling over laptop backpacks, i.e. Dear LazyWeb

Mar 20, 2008 21:19

Over the past nine months, I've really only found one downside to having a 17" laptop -- it's a bit heavy! Since I carry the laptop in a shoulder bag, all that burden is placed on one shoulder. Every couple months I've shifted it from one shoulder to the other to preserve my shoulders and my spine.

I think it's time I move on to a bag that more evenly distributes the burden, so I've begun looking into buying a laptop backpack. There are plenty of laptop backpacks to go around but precious few that fit my 17" MacBook Pro and hold a little more than just my laptop. My searches so far have turned up two promising candidates:

The SwissGear backpack looks like a good match, but a few reviewers indicate that it's a bit on the heavy side before one even puts anything in the bag! I'm trying to get away from putting too much weight on my shoulders. On the other hand, the Brenthaven was the first one I found a week or so ago, and I've seen and liked the 15" version I saw in the Apple Store, but I've started to have second thoughts about it because a few reviewers have indicated that it isn't waterproof. Further complicating the decision is the cost of each; the Swissgear is $100, and the Brenthaven is $180. Fortunately, most of the cost of this purchase will be defrayed by birthday gifts.

I feel like I'm one of those house-hunter shows where the realtor shows some sap or couple three houses with their pros and cons and leaves you on the edge of your seat to find out what they eventually decided to buy, and I'm that poor sap. :P

Do you have any advice for me? If there's another bag you think I should consider, tell me which!
