Wow, interesting history. I've wanted to go to Cuba since the first time I had lechon (even though now I'm a vegetarian, haha). Nonetheless, I've actually thought about going to Cuba for Spring Break, albeit technically illegal. Have you ever been?

Why did you decide to go to Opus Dei Uni? To study periodismo? I live near the metro Francos Rodriguez; I love my place, even though it definitely has its setbacks. I don't live in an apartment but rather the second floor of a chalet rented out by 2 elderly sisters who live on the bottom floor. It's under university housing, so I do have to be somewhat accountable for keeping the salon, kitchen, etc. tidy. I decided to stay here over winter break, so I've been alone here for the past couple of weeks. However, in a couple of days my new flatmate will be moving in. I adored my flatmate from last semester too. She graduated though, and I'm missing her dearly. I'm guessing you're back in Miami for the time being? Well, enjoy the flip-flop weather for me. Dear lord do I miss wearing flip-flops

Hahaha...no, no, I've never been to Cuba - my grandfather spent about a decade in jail for protesting against Castro after the revolution, and my entire family was exiled, so I'm kind of contrary to visiting the island while the tourist money supports such a repressive regime. Nonetheless, I hear you on lechón, and on wanting to eventually visit the island; I will probably go once Castro finally dies & the regime changes (though, honestly, considering he's been dictator for 45 years and counting, half of me is reluctant to believe that there will ever be a world without Castro.) If you’re an American citizen it is illegal, and since the Bush administration took power the punishment for going has been being enforced with more and more scrutiny, so keep that in mind before buying tickets; I’ve no idea about how strict they are, but the last I read about it (in the NyTimes) just the fines imposed were pretty harsh, and your right to travel outside the United States can be revoked as a consequence of the visit, so, again, I'd think about ( ... )

Concerning Cuba, I kinda of knew in my heart of hearts that no matter what kind of deal I found through a travel agency, I couldn't have the guts to go through with it. I have this tendency to dream big when it comes to traveling, and then deal with the smaller, less exotic reality later on. And I hadn't given much thought on your point about supporting Castro as well. Money is definitely a voice. Which had got me thinking: Who is going to last longer: Castro or Cher? See, look at me, tackling the important issues in life ( ... )

oh, madrid.
the boy in the middle of the first black and white photograph could look almost like grecian marble if there was more of a slight bump in the bridge of his nose
