Australia votes

Yes, I'm talking about that sorry-ass "My Favourite Album" thing on Triple J. benpeek was the first to notify me of the results in this post, and he treats it to the usual LJ memeage: Bold if you liked it, strikethrough if you hated it, and, well I'm assuming italic means "meh". Needless to say I'm not going to agree with many of his choices ( Read more... )

Haha. It's supposed to be an ABC-in-general thing, not jjj run, but I wont argue.
Wasn't bad entertainment for a vote about a contained recorded form, I thought. Australia is in love with Jeff Buckley and that's OK.

Yeah I think I knew that it was all-of-ABC, but hey, it was late.

yeah, i do agree, actually, infinity is a better album. but it was late, and i always have to find the album to remember the title... but dead flag blues is the way to open an album with them, yes.

the list definately needed more tom waits.

didn't you like more than me? though i think i could have bolded more albums if i went, 'a few tracks are cool.' but i dunno, takes a lot for me to hate something...

I tried to completely avoid the thing because, well, I don't have a "favourite album". (But here it is in my friends list. DAMN YOU! :) ) I certainly didn't want to sit back and watch some panelists with the safe DIG mentality again crapping on about how timeless the fucking Beatles are.

I've got ones that I've flogged the hell out of, and heck, while some of those in that category made it fairly high, like OK Computer, Achtung Baby, Eternal Nightcap and 10-1, but if I was forced to make a choice it'd be completely arbitrary and the ones that I would've picked mightn't been on the list.

But as you've found, the albums people picked by a particular artist aren't particularly the best by them; take the bluffer's choice of Tubular Bells for Mike Oldfield - as you know I can think of about four or five better albums by him, including TB III, for crying out loud, but the original is the one people associate with their first shag or first bong hit or whatever so that's the one that gets picked as their "favourite".

*heh* Sorry to draw your attention to it - I wouldn't have known if Ben hadn't done so himself!
I think popularity contests are always going to end up boring. Oh well.

The White Album is officially self-titled, it just gets called The White Album because of the whole plain white cover thing.

I suppose that's why it's called that. I like more of the list than you do. I suspect that's no surprise though!

Yeah I realised that about the White Album after I posted, but I decided to leave that in there. It was a late-night post!

It really is surprising, though, just how much of the list I actually liked though!

Paul Simon's other world music album was "The Rhythm of the Saints", which I also like a lot. The second track, "Can't Run But", is wonderful.

I have a list of my favourite albums here:

Knowing that none of them had any chance of appearing on the ABC list, I didn't even bother to vote. :-)

Hurrah! It's a shame he didn't do anything as good after that, eh?

When I saw that Amanda owned a copy of "Graceland", which I'd been meaning to buy for ages, I knew she was the gal for me. :-)
