Yes, I'm talking about that sorry-ass "My Favourite Album" thing on Triple J. benpeek was the first to notify me of the results in this post, and he treats it to the usual LJ memeage: Bold if you liked it, strikethrough if you hated it, and, well I'm assuming italic means "meh". Needless to say I'm not going to agree with many of his choices ( Read more... )

Paul Simon's other world music album was "The Rhythm of the Saints", which I also like a lot. The second track, "Can't Run But", is wonderful.

I have a list of my favourite albums here:

Knowing that none of them had any chance of appearing on the ABC list, I didn't even bother to vote. :-)

Hurrah! It's a shame he didn't do anything as good after that, eh?

When I saw that Amanda owned a copy of "Graceland", which I'd been meaning to buy for ages, I knew she was the gal for me. :-)

Almost. :-)

She also had a copy of Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert, which I had loved in my 20s but somehow quite forgotten. It's like going home, sometimes, rediscovering an old album. *warm, nostalgic haze of good feelings*

Ah, that's a beauty! Yeah, I hadn't listened to either Graceland or Rhythm Of The Saints until I recently heard a gorgeous cover by Dan Rossen (of Grisly Bear and Department of Eagles) of "Graceland". I thought "Ooh, I need to listen to those albums", went and found the remastered versions, and loved them. Probably ROTS even more actually... Nostalgia indeed.

I like how we are both South Park characters having this conversation.

Me too.

Timmy!

ROTS reminds me of Philip Glass's similarly South American inspired "Uakti". If you haven't heard that, it's worth a listen.

Will check out the Glass. I'm up and down with him, bigger fan of Steve Reich, but it's not like they're in competition or anything ;)

Boston mashup artist djBC did this awesome (download) album called Glassbreaks a couple of years ago, mashing up all sorts of hip-hop artists with Philip Glass compositions. Not on his website any more, but:

maybe there's a torrent or two around or something...

I'm normally ambivalent about Glass too, but was recently hypnotised by a live performance of Satyagraha, so my opinion is temporarily skewed towards the positive. :-)

I'll chase down that mashup. Thanks for the tip. What a strange and wonderful project!

(And yes: kudos to Steve Reich. I think we'll have some interesting overlaps in our music collections, you and I.)
