The books are somewhat different from the series. While the first book corresponds roughly to the first season, there are a lot of differences, including some very major ones. I did not like the going occult. The book was good, and the story worked as it was. But I would have prefered it if the "dark passenger" remained an element of his personality tuned towards death by trauma, rather than an external entity which invaded his damaged soul. There was no hint of it in earlier books, so its introduction, in my mind, turns the series from murder mystery/thriller to fantasy/horror.

They're pretty decent, but I like the audio editions better than reading them. I don't know why though.
