I had no idea there were Dexter books.

My mom loves that show so I will have to tell her.

Author is Jeff Lindsay

1. Darkly Dreaming Dexter
2. Dearly Devoted Dexter
3. Dexter in the Dark

They're pretty decent, but I like the audio editions better than reading them. I don't know why though.

The books are somewhat different from the series. While the first book corresponds roughly to the first season, there are a lot of differences, including some very major ones. The book is much shorter than the season for one -- or conversely, they had to stretch the book out to make the season. The book has fewer bodies than the season ( ... )

I did not like the going occult. The book was good, and the story worked as it was. But I would have prefered it if the "dark passenger" remained an element of his personality tuned towards death by trauma, rather than an external entity which invaded his damaged soul. There was no hint of it in earlier books, so its introduction, in my mind, turns the series from murder mystery/thriller to fantasy/horror.
