I've just spent hours doing research for the flashbacks in my latest fic, which is set in 1866 New Mexico. One of the things I was trying to find out was if the hand pump for water would have been inside a kitchen by that time period. I'm thinking yes, though I havne't found a definitive answer. I believe I've seen pictures of them in 1860 houses... I'll look up a book I should have at home that might have the answer.
