Power cuts and disability

There was a storm here in Britain recently, leaving many homes without power. I wasn't affected this time but it led me to follow up a rumour that disabled people can register for priority reconnection. It's not clear to me what this could mean in practice - if a power line's down, it's down until mended - but perhaps individual households get ( Read more... )

They got emergency generators out to people who relied on medical equipment here, but I think that's in the local emergency plan not a national thing.

Two villages here ate still without power because the damage was so extensive; I believe that vulnerable people have been moved to respite facilities; there's no way of getting the power back to individual households if the pylons are down or the transformers blown
