Title: What Shall We Live For Author: Laura H Rating: PG Category: Post-AWE, W/E Characters: Elizabeth Disclaimer: The Mouse Owns All A/N: 100 words for the blackpearlsails prompt 'Cross'.
Melancholy and beautiful, and I too liked the ending line, but also: the narrow cut in the sand where his sword crossed hers; proof that he passed this way once, proof that he was real.
Oh, that first bit was just perfect. Anyone who has known grief will understand that moment when one looks around and can't quite believe the rest of the world is running like a clock while one's own world is shattered.
I also love her question, very poignant her little moment of insecurity. Beautiful!

That's it exactly. Everything around you moves on and it can make you angry that the rest of the world is ignoring your grief. Given that elizabeth was pretty much on her own to deal with that, I can imagine how confused and lost she must've been.
Yes, it is. I wantd this drabble to be about grief and loss, but also about the need to move forward and how Elizabeth's world didn't end on that beach.
Yes, that's something I've often thought about. Romantic as the figurative notion is of Elizabeth being the owner of Will's heart, what sort of experience would that be for her to be the literal owner of her husband's heart. Not something that could be taken lightly.

Hee! No votes in the House = jeans, flip flops, and net surfing. Also vodka.

And I'm also glad you liked that line, because I think that day must've seemed so fleeting for both of them.

A lovely tribute to the couple, to the man whose mortal life was cut short far too soon, and to the future.
