a guide to XF fic on LJ

ETA: Be sure to read the comments for more links! I'm too lazy to add them to the main post, but they are there if you scroll down all the way. :D But it's not at all up to date even with that - if you want to make sure you read the new authors after you read these people, check out phile_files.
Two things led to my idea for this post ( Read more... )

Dumb question...I know a bunch of fandoms are doing a "big bang" challenge now, where participants have to write a long fanwork or produce a vid or make something around a challenge or theme by a given deadline...is anything like that going on in XF fandom?

It's not on the slash side, at least - though we've got some new fics and comms going too. But I thought I'd ask.

Not to my knowledge, no. Reports suggest that I have tossed the idea around with certain people who also happen to be my co-mods, but these are unsubstantiated at best and let's just say, I don't want to run it.

Oddly enough, I feel like XF slash has remained more active than the general lump of us! At least, when I was looking at xfilesfanfic to see if I'd overlooked anything or if it was still alive, a strangely disproportionate amount of it was slash, or Doggett-y. Maybe that's just my outside perception!

You might not want to run it, but you might not end up with much choice when I drag you into helping.

You know, for awhile there, someone was keeping an XF fandom newsletter updated. If someone *else* wanted to take it over (really, you know anyone who'd want to and could be trusted with it?) it would be really great for keeping everything connected.

And the people who have the password to the newsletter account are more than willing to pass it on, hint hint.

(Also, at some point in the very near future I'll update the xf newbieguide, I swear.)

Hahaha, the aforementioned co-mod and I have actually talked about this. But then I remembered that it takes a lot of time, and I get itchy about committing to things that take up time, even when I might be doing the same stuff anyway. That said, I'm still thinking about it. And I'm still thinking about that original someone reviving it! Something like that would be super great! :P

It might not be that bad if you gathered a group of about 4-5 people, a list of websites and comms to check, and updated it every other day or so. (I take no credit for this plan, the ladies who run scranton_times have a great model, I think.)

So... yeah. I mean, I'd be willing to pitch in if you wanted to do this. Having other people to help you so you're only scouring for info once a week or less isn't that bad, I think.

Of course. The idea of having to actually read stuff on Empheral and ff.net is frightening.

Oh, BTW: thank you for fulfilling my wish and posting this!! You rock.

ETA: If you want to hand off the password, though, while we're on the subject, so that we can sit on it, that would be okay! Someone is leaning on me, hee.
