Second from the bottom, horizontal looks doable.

(I was tempted to sign up for this just for an excuse to write AU-hooker fic.)

And that's exactly the line at bat first, followed by the center column. I think I could probably handle the last column as well, but two soul bonding fics might be too much for me. Maybe I can work my way up to the first row (A/B/O is terrifying and I've never even read a wingfic, but DAEMON AU.

I hate that there is no safe path to Fusion. It's all strife with land mines. *sigh* And I'd really been hoping for a blackout-ready card.

Soul bonding is one of those tropes that just make me kind of want to gag. Like, it feels the OPPOSITE of romantic (removes that element of 'I choose you, with eyes open' which most of my OTPs have.) I think I've read ONE wingfic.

What IS fusion? Multiple tropes?

I hate the idea of removing the inherent free will that is making a conscious choice to be with someone, but I think that can actually be worked into a soul bonding fic. I do have an idea for that one, at least.

Fusion is dropping characters from one fandom into the canon/setting of another, as if they've always existed there, or seamlessly incorporating elements of another canon in an existing one without transplanting any of the characters (so it's not a crossover, it's a fusion of the actual universes). Buffy at Hogwarts, as a wizard, not a slayer. The Avengers as heads of houses in ASoIAF/GoTverse. One of my favorite fics ever, ever, is a Sherlock fusion with Flowers for Algernon, where John is accidentally infected with an experimental serum at Baskerville. I've had two fusion ideas beating around in my head for awhile now, so I'd love to make that row work. (And things may be looking up - I've just had the crackiest animal transformation bunny ever, and I'm kind of in love with it.)

...that explains so many things about a lot of the recent patterns I've seen

Yeah, I expect things to be fairly tropetastic in fanficland for awhile.

HAHA, I would kill to see your version of wingfic (which I've also never read a single story of).

This looks like fun (and terrifying!). What fandoms were you thinking of? Also, we still doing that remix thing?

My mind is blank when it comes to wingfic, honestly. Except I'm almost positive that John would be the one with the wings.

Against my better judgement (and by judgement, I mean sanity), I'm going to do it all Sherlock. I think everywherestars would kill me otherwise. Mostly Johnlock, naturally, but not all - the accidental baby acquisition, for instance, would have some Sherlock/Irene history in there (and maybe platonic Sherlock and John), and there'll more than likely be some Lestrade/Molly tucked in these squares somewhere.

Here by way of asya-ana's friending meme :-)

I got my trope_bingo card recently and I'm still o_0. There always seem to be 2 or 3 that make your brain freeze up, you know?

Wingfic can be fun, especially if you play with it and surprise readers by deconstructing it (Sherlock gets wings and suddenly has to deal with horribly boring problems such as moulting, feather mites, etc.) or subverting it (Molly suddenly grows wings - and hires Sherlock to find out who gave them to her, because she's really pissed off at not being asked if she wanted them).

And I'd kill for secret twin/doppelganger :-D

Edited for gerund fail

I'll trade you for your truth or dare square!

I wish the frozen brain had stopped at 2 or 3. In reality, it was about a third of the card that made me hyperventilate. Initially. Now I'm trying to embrace the challenge. "Trying" being the operative word.

Thanks for that link, somehow I missed that one. Oddly enough, I actually have a mostly-formed idea for a wingfic fill. In general. I have a feeling it's the details that may kill me. :) But that Molly fic absolutely needs to be written! I would read that in a heartbeat.

Heh. Sure, let's trade :-) Seriously, my problem with that square is that I can't imagine the characters in most of my fandoms ever playing truth or dare. I suppose that would be another example of having to be flexible, right? ;-)

I have this saying that goes, "You can write to any prompt if you're willing enough to play with it." And then I look at the au: circus square on my bingo card and go, Well, it was a great theory...

And now I'm dying to know what your wingfic fill is about. No worries, I'm not asking for you to divulge anything you don't want to. But... hmm ( ... )

It sounds so reassuring, and yet... dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun. (Oddly enough, au:cirus is going to be my free space. For a postage stamp. I think.)

The wingfic fill will be a Sherlock take on Source Code, of sorts. In the broadest of terms, anyway. John is shot on Afghanistan, as in canon, but he isn't invalided home. He's sent to Baskerville to serve out the rest of his tour as part of an experimental program in enhanced warfare. Sherlock takes Henry's case out of sheer boredom. He breaks into Baskerville with Mycroft's name, discovers all sorts of military experiments going on - weaponized serums and gasses and plant agents, tracking and camouflage animals that have been "enhanced"... and DNA splicing, the most interesting of which seems to involve a human subject. So he arranges for John's "escape" from the lab, then is conveniently there ( ... )

*waves* New from the LJ Is Alive friending meme. :)

Well, there are some... challenging tropes included. *g* and you said you're going to try this for the Sherlock fandom. I'm very interested to see where you'll be going with some of them.

Since I've just started out writing fanfic at all I'm still wary of challenges like this one. *g* I always said that I'm not a fiction writer and would never do it, but than there was that Sherlock Christmas exchange and I thought I'll just give it a go. And then the second fic I ever wrote was femslash, because one of my exchange partners expressed a particular interest in it. XD ( ... )

Welcome to the world of fic! When you're first starting out, I think, it's hard to imagine doing something like this, because everything is a challenge. Eventually (hopefully sooner than later!) you'll find that you want to push yourself, and things like prompt fests and theme bingos are awesome for that. You've already gotten a taste, by doing an exchange.

Oddly enough, many of the squares I was finding most difficult (animal transformation, wingfic, au: hooker/porn/stripper and especially alpha/beta/omega) are the ones I have ideas for that really excite me. Part of it, I suspect, is probably due to the ability to subvert these tropes, just based on who these characters are and how they interact.

AU: all human is geared specifically toward magical or paranormal canons (so you'd write, say, HP without wizards). Since Sherlock is already all human, I won't be touching that one. :)

Yes, the writing was very daunting at first, but it turned into a lot of fun quickly, figuring out what worked for me, what didn't, and how I tried to make the story "flow". Also, my betas were a great help. :)

That's great that you now have good ideas for the squares you weren't so sure about! It will be interesting to see what you come up with - I like it if tropes are changed in some way, so that as a reader you can't be too sure of the outcome. :)

Well, AU: all human is now more like the free space for you. *g* Nice to take a breather now and then. :)
