They're Spies, Aren't They?

There was a Cabal Agent inside the Sanctuary.

Scratch that, there was another Cabal Agent inside the Sanctuary. Dana would keep pulling her puppetstrings as long as she was alive and useful, or at least as long as Kate had something or someone to lose. She tried not to think about what that would entail.

Kate knew she was walking a fine line between ( Read more... )

It's early in the morning when Nikola walks into the library to feed George. The pigeon is tapping furiously at the glass on the top level of the library. Some moron has closed the window on the poor creature and it's Nikola that suffers the lecture when he unlatches and opens the window.

"Come on - get off!" Nikola mutters, as the bird flaps around his head, pecking lightly at him. Nikola fishes the tin of bread out and breaks it up for the bird which at the very least earns him some peace as he heads back downstairs and saunters over to his desk. Well, not technically 'his' desk. It was an ordinary library desk pushed over by the window but everybody knew that it was now is and didn't dare go anywhere near it ( ... )

Kate didn't to defend herself with snappy remarks. No 'bite me', or 'like you even know me'. In truth she doesn't know herself anymore, she wonders if she ever did.

She's just getting so tired.

"You're to confine yourself to the open levels," areas that were free to guests to walk around in. "First though, you're coming to my lab."

He was going to put a tracking device in her.

Kate looked at him warily, a flurry of thoughts and worries for what he intended for her spinning through her head. She wasn't high on trust these days, and he wasn't exactly her biggest fan.

Cautiously, she used the dresser to pull herself up, jaw still smarting from his blow,

"I'm sorry", she said quietly, "I know that doesn't mean anything, but I am."

Finally. A touch of remorse.

"It's not me you need to say it to, it's Morgana. I never trusted you from the start, but she did. You're still coming with me though."

Nikola opened the door and stepped out, hinting for Kate to follow him. If she gave him any trouble he'd simply kill her and pretend it was an accident.

Kate knew he wouldn't hesitate to snap her neck if she tried to run, and more than that, she just didn't have any fight in her right now. She stepped out into the hall, stopping and waiting for him, not daring to even make any fast moves. He was much faster than her, after all.

Nikola led her to his lab, locking the door and indicating that she should sit down next to one of the benches.

He retrieved his laptop, setting it on the desk before he took out a long slender needle and laid it on the benchtop beside the computer.

Kate sat down gingerly, sucking in a nervous breath when she saw him produce the needle.

She wondered if he could hear her pulse begin to race, but more than that, she wondered what was in that wicked looking needle.

...nothing yet.

Nikola placed a small tray on the table that looked like it was full of rough sand. Rough metallic sand. Really it was a sea of tracking devices that could be injected under the skin, nearly impossible to find again.

Nikola sprinkled a few inside the back of the needle, tapped it, and then wandered over to her, brandishing it.

"Lean forward please..."

Kate's eyebrows raised pretty much as far as they possibly could, "Excuse me?" She asked, more shakily than she'd like.

"You heard me."

Her gaze darted back and forth between him and the needle, trying to figure out exactly what he was up to, "An explanation would be nice..."

"You are working for the Cabal and you want an explanation?" Nikola gave her an, 'awww poor baby' look. "Think yourself lucky that I have not handed you over to Helen yet. Now, I'll ask you again. Bend forward."

"At least tell me where you plan on sticking that thing!" Kate hissed, not sure she wanted the answer, and feeling far more trapped than she would like.

"The back of your neck, nice and close to your spine..." Nikola was afterall familiar with that area of Kate. It would also make those tracking devices rather hard to remove.

Kate hesitated, she'd almost bled out on his operating table, she wasn't exactly keen to let him have a go at the area again. But she also knew he wasn't asking, and slowly, not taking her eyes off him until the last moment, dipped her head enough to give him access to the area. The double scar from the scarab, now healed still stood out starkly from her skin.
