Thank you to everyone for all the supportive comments about my dad. I can't respond to you individually without dissolving into tears, so I'm gonna pass on doing that, but believe me when I say it meant a lot

I thought about your parents the other day when my mom and I were sitting in the "lobby" of Wal-mart waiting for my sister to come out, and this woman was pushing her kids in one of those big plastic carts and tried to do that "I'm going to go really fast over the 'speed bump' in the doorway" thing...

Hopefully, the laxative thing worked out with your mom, and hopefully she won't have any reason to do that again.

Glad to hear the guitar playing is coming along. I'm planning on buying a 3/4 size acoustic guitar in the next few weeks and hope to learn how to play actual chords.
