I've always thought that the way you play America is well thought out and accurate. Your replies are fun to read and I totally wouldn't know but your American history seems excellent.

On the subject of US/UK... I see what you mean in your last paragraph about how it's different because it's dealing with personal matters. Maybe if anything, y-you could m-maybe tone down the f-flirting a little?

B-but yea! I love the way you play him and I hope you keep your chin up and continue!!!

I'm sorry I got to this late, I sort of had to see these comments for myself before making any stand. I personally feel that you play America wonderfully--he's really American, and your argument is very sound. Despite him appearing so much in the manga I don't know enough about the nation America to judge and form strong opinions, but one thing I do know...is that I found your interaction with UK a little off-putting myself. I told myself I should shut up because I know NOTHING of the things you said above--it may very well be that US and UK do actually get along, that there's plenty of basis for it, but I must admit that it made me a little uncomfortable still ( ... )

Erm
I'm among the main complainers of that whole USxUK thing, TBH. Sorry for that.
I think that like in any RP, you can play out for fun a relationship with him, but how about doing it in your personal journal? The only thing that bothers me is how you take that pairing for granted like in this post.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but these are only your personal beliefs.
I think that you need to leave some space for other relationships that UK has, which have a lot of more history, and lived with UK's ''tsundere''-ness a lot longer than young, impatient, petulant America did. And IMO Merka isn't the only one for UK, even though the possibility of a more than platonic relationship is possible, but I'd say, as much as US's relatonship with Canada or UK's with idk Portugal.
But honestly, the wank was unjustified. I think it's good that you've done a How's my Driving Post so people can politely tell you what makes them uncomfortable. <3 I overall enjoyed your other platonic and normal interactions, since you seem to know about good ol' ( ... )

I think UK's relationship with other nations would be up for the person playing UK to decide, not me. I've spent time talking to him about America and UK's relationship, along with listening to his opinions on UK's relationships with other nations. I can't say that he plays the character exactly the way I would, but I still think he's doing a well enough job so I'm not complaining. America isn't exactly the type of person to give people their personal space [at least, not since he dropped the whole isolationism thing]. He's been harassing Canada too, it's just less obvious than it is with UK because Canada posts less. So it's really up to UK-mun to decide how much attention to give to America and to other potential relationships ( ... )

Okay, I am usually really bad at giving any kind of input on anything (especially since this is actually my first RP ever, and I honestly don't know how they usually work), but let me say a couple things:

I think you're doing a great job of playing America. Most of your comments make me laugh, and while I don't know a whole ton about the US as a country, in my opinion your characterization is fine. I don't think you have anything to worry about in regards to being compared to our old America. You say things I think America would say (ie, things that aren't exactly the most intelligent things to say), but you don't do it in a way that has him come off as a complete moron. That was the problem with our last America (imo) and you're doing fine with this~

On the US/UK side of things, I think you're overdoing it a bit. I totally ship US/UK, and really have no doubt that Himaruya does too, but.... I don't think they'd be that forward about it, even if it had been going on for some time. I mean, I have no problems with you two acting like ( ... )

I'm glad to hear you say that. I actually did an in-depth analysis of how the previous America was portraying the character because I didn't agree with aspects of his portrayal and I wanted to verbalize why I didn't like it. The biggest issue I had was that he NEVER answered questions seriously, and America has shown in the comics that he CAN and SHOULD be serious sometimes. I also really don't think he's a complete idiot [which I go more in-depth about in the journal post I made before this one], so I try to balance the ignorance and dopiness with actual intelligence when it's a subject that he should be knowledgeable about [such as his own history/geography/etc.]. There were other things I didn't like, but those were the most significant ones. However, some people seemed to like him, so I was worried that I wasn't being exuberant enough sometimes or something.

But really, I don't have anything personal against the old America RPer [I don't even know anything about him other than his IC posts], so I don't want anyone who likes him ( ... )

I should stop by and read that. I like seeing other people's takes on characters, because they're usually so much different from what I've got in my head. It makes it a lot easier to accept characters that way when they turn out different from my own little head-canon.

The "I can never be serious" was another problem I saw, and you balance things out perfectly. You're also not over-the-top ridiculous when you are being an idiot, which is good. :D;;

I'm not trying to smash our old America (I feel like it might have come off that way D:), because I don't really know them either, but yeah. I think when you're playing someone that important, you should probably have a good grasp of how to do it.

If your toning-down skills are anything like your RP skills, I have faith in you. xD

I'm not a nation-rper, and totally just a lurker on Nation_Ask (Though I'd love to be a part someday, if I could find something I wouldn't be terrified to do wrong. ^^) But I also think you're doing a wonderful job as America. Like others have said, you can be serious when you need to, don't mock most of the questions and play America as more of a real person than a stereotype. The way the last person played him gave me the sense that he (the character of course) has only two emotions, mocking and ignorance which could get annoying at times. We have alot more sides to us than that. ^^

America's not my favorite character though I like the US/UK pairing, but the way you play him makes me like him more.

Aww, thanks, I really appreciate hearing that. There are certain times when I see America portrayed in fsnfics or something where I'm like "damn, do people really see him as this stupid/cruel/etc.?", and I'm like "If this is the conception that some people have of him, then no wonder they don't like him". There's also people in other countries with a negative view of the US as a nation, which influences their opinion of the character, but all sources I've come across indicate that the more people know about what America is REALLY like [as opposed to only hearing about negative things or misconceptions], the more they like us. So I've really been hoping that I can improve some people's opinions of both the character and the actual nation through my responses and such.
