GHKADJkDH SORRY I SOUND SO HARSH FORGIVE ME ;n; vivi314 February 26 2009, 20:19:08 UTC
Erm
I'm among the main complainers of that whole USxUK thing, TBH. Sorry for that.
I think that like in any RP, you can play out for fun a relationship with him, but how about doing it in your personal journal? The only thing that bothers me is how you take that pairing for granted like in this post.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but these are only your personal beliefs.
I think that you need to leave some space for other relationships that UK has, which have a lot of more history, and lived with UK's ''tsundere''-ness a lot longer than young, impatient, petulant America did. And IMO Merka isn't the only one for UK, even though the possibility of a more than platonic relationship is possible, but I'd say, as much as US's relatonship with Canada or UK's with idk Portugal.
But honestly, the wank was unjustified. I think it's good that you've done a How's my Driving Post so people can politely tell you what makes them uncomfortable. <3 I overall enjoyed your other platonic and normal interactions, since you seem to know about good ol' Merka 8)

I think UK's relationship with other nations would be up for the person playing UK to decide, not me. I've spent time talking to him about America and UK's relationship, along with listening to his opinions on UK's relationships with other nations. I can't say that he plays the character exactly the way I would, but I still think he's doing a well enough job so I'm not complaining. America isn't exactly the type of person to give people their personal space [at least, not since he dropped the whole isolationism thing]. He's been harassing Canada too, it's just less obvious than it is with UK because Canada posts less. So it's really up to UK-mun to decide how much attention to give to America and to other potential relationships.

UK-mun and I kind of came to the conclusion that both America and UK are polyamorous [and have accepted this about each other], so they can express interest in each other as well as certain other nations without problems. Believe me, I ship UK with nations other than America, so I definitely wouldn't want to try to obstruct, say, UK/Canada, UK/France, or UK/Japan.

To be completely honest, I have the tendency to ignore criticisms on US/UK when they're coming from people who also express distaste for America, because it gives me the impression that they're not giving the pairing and the basis behind it a fair chance just because they don't like America.

True, there is a lot of personal opinion going into our portrayal of this relationship, but it's necessary to involve personal opinion in playing these characters. Just look at characters like TRNC and Belgium: almost their entire characterization has to be developed by the people RPing them based on personal opinion. True, America and UK are some of the main characters, so we have a lot more canon information to go off of, but when you compare it to major characters from series like Harry Potter or Marvel comics [I use these as examples just because they're old fandoms of mine], you'll find that there's considerably less canon material to work off of, thus leaving many more blanks to fill in if you want to have a complete, well-rounded comprehension of the character.

We're not the only people in the community who are RPing our characters as though they're in a relationship, it's just the most prominent with us because we're two of the most active posters, America... just isn't discrete, and the fangirls aren't exactly helping.
