Somewhere along the lines my family has become obsessed with who shows up to children's birthday parties. Shouldn't it be about the kids?? It was always just my immediate family when I grew up. If my aunts and uncles showed up it was an awesome special occasion, but that was very rare. I was a greedy ass kid too so I'm sure I would have tried

It was always my parents and my aunt and uncle, who were actually more like grandparents to me. That was it. There was an age range when my mom was stay-at-home and she'd arrange a party with my neighborhood friends at mcdonalds or something. That was always during the week since my birthday was during summer, and only those few years when that type of thing is the most fun thing ever.
