Live and in person it's more pinkish than rusty. I must take a better picture tommorrow, in different light:)

My Evil Plan (tm) is to get you and Dale to come stay the weekend one day in the future, so we can dye lots of stuff.

*giggles* I am a fan of your Evil Plan (tm)!!!! We'll have to chat about what I can bring down with me to contribute to the pot... I do have a mulberry tree outside my apartment! And the walnuts will be falling soon-ish...

Walnut dye! AWESOME.
Let's chat at Sept. Crown and see if we can synchronize swatches, and nail down a visiting time:)

I have a question: how long did it take you to make your copper liquor? I just mixed up my second batch (first batch didn't work - used copper wire) and I'm curious to know how long until it is 'ripe'.

Mulberries outside your apartment? You could raise silkworms! Cool!

it doesn't look mauve-ish in that light.....I would call that "Old Lady Red Hair Dye #4."

People hair shouldn't be dyed this color, oh dear!

I needs must post a better pic of the wool tomorrow. I swear it's pinkish purplish, not old lady reddish!

You are not the first person to say this, Beloved Laurel. I'll take a better pic in different light and post it tommorrow. It's not transformed itslef to "Old Lady Red Hair Dye #4." - tis still pinkish-purplish-brownish-grayish. Or, as you called it, MAUVE.

Promise I will be taking a better pic of the colors in different light tomorrow. Popular opinion says it is looking decidedly rust-ish (I believe the term "Old Lady Red Hair Dye #4" came up a couple of times) in the photo - but it's really truly more purplish pinkish in real life. More Mauve. Sigh.

How fabo. I totaly want to know what your process was with the Blackberries? Did you weigh in pounds? fill a pot? boil in water? How concentated did you make the slurry?

what would or will you do different in the future?

In the past I have seen different colors come out of the same batch depending on how the wool went in. wool in the fiber. wool already spun.

1.5 pound fresh blackberries (I read that frozen ones work too!) simmered (not boiled) in 1 gallon of tapwater for 1 hour. I added the wool, then let the wool simmer in the sweet smelling sludge water for 3 hours. Total time to finished product:4 hours ( ... )
