Thyroid growths are incredibly common. I've had several friends who've had something or other removed (one just last week) and I discovered it runs in families too (my aunt and grandmother have both had issues but neither had anything removed as yet.) I had about two thirds of my thyroid removed over 10 years ago. The tests all came back negative - definitely a good thing - but through the process I did also talk to people who had gone on to have their entire thyroid removed due to cancer, and they were all equally of opinion that on the plus side, the treatment (ie. remove thyroid) was very simple, with an excellent success rate because it is so localised, and no major lifelong impacts (you have to take thyroxin tablets and that's about it). Wishing you all the very best luck that it is a very good outcome, and feel free to call if you want to chat with someone.
