I have a friend who's on vacation in Peru, and I was kind of freaked out, emailing around and leaving phone messages, until I heard from her. She's perfectly fine, and going to hike the Inca trail. Thank goodness for email, another friend said. Indeed. I feel just awful for all the people down there, but at the same time I'm incredibly relieved
